Rye is a truly underrated grain, often considered suited only for those of lower class.  Not here at Brooks Grain.  As your rye grain company of choice, we’d like to give you four compelling reasons why rye is fit not only for all societal classes, but rye is a grain fit for a king.  It’s heartiness and strong flavor is a force to be reckoned with, but that only elevates it’s status as king grain.  As experts in the rye grain industry, we should know.  Without further adieu:

4 Fun Facts About Rye from Your Favorite Rye Grain Company

1. Rye is incredibly healthy

Need some soluble fiber, vitamin E, calcium, iron, and potassium in your diet?  Yes, you do.  Rye has all of this and more:  cardiovascular disease, colon cancer, breast cancer, and diabetes all quake at the notion of rye consumption.  We’re assuming that’s what happens when rye is linked to a reduction in these diseases at least.

2. Rye is the answer to your diet woes

Being rich in carbohydrates, rye makes you feel full more quickly.  This theoretically leads to weight loss since a full belly passes over that second piece of cake…theoretically.

3. Rye is a green grain

It’s not green in color.  But it is environmentally friendly.  As a winter cover crop, rye’s deep roots capture nutrients, increase the health of the soil, prevent soil erosion, and rye even helps prevent weed growth sans herbicides.  Win-win.

4. Rye is versatile

Whether you’re consuming rye in alcohol form (whiskey, vodka, gin), baked goods, or boiling the berries whole to add to a salad, there’s no disputing the versatility of this grain.  Rye is also used to feed to livestock.  It’s a nutritious snack for the whole family!

We hope you’re thoroughly convinced by now that rye is a grain fit for a king.  If not, we’ll be over here sipping on some rye grain whiskey and knowing you’ll come to your senses with time and maybe a call to your premier rye grain company, Brooks Grain.  Until next time, cheers!
